Craft & materials

Machine precision, human finish.

We combine our CNC router and 4-axis lathe with the hands of experienced craftsmen, so every piece is exact and none of them feels mass-produced.

Handcrafted

Shaped, fitted and checked by craftsmen in our own Ambala workshop.

Hand-polished

Finished by hand, layer after layer, to bring out the grain of the teak.

CNC machined

Every joint is cut on CNC, so parts fit exactly and stay true for years.

Pure brass fittings

Connectors, sabots and pulls in solid brass that age to a warm patina.

01

Cut on CNC

Legs, rails and joints are machined from solid teak to tight tolerances, and turned on our 4-axis lathe.

02

Shaped by hand

Edges are softened, surfaces sanded and every part fitted and checked by hand before finishing.

03

Polished by hand

A hand-applied finish builds depth in the grain, and pure brass fittings are added last.

Knock-down, done properly

Ships flat. Assembles in minutes. Lasts for decades.

Knock-down usually means compromise. Ours doesn't: solid teak parts are CNC-cut so every joint locates on two dowels, then a hidden steel bolt pulls it tight into a cross-dowel nut. The brass you see is laser-cut from sheet and pipe in our own workshop. The frame stays rigid however often it is taken apart.

  1. Smaller boxes, safer transportPieces travel flat, so freight costs less and there's far less risk of damage, even to remote resorts.
  2. One key, no glueEvery piece assembles with a single hex key we supply. No carpenter is needed on site.
  3. Tighten, repair, moveJoints can be re-tightened, parts can be replaced, and furniture moves house without a scratch.

Joint library

Eight joints. Every piece we make uses them.

These are our factory drawings, simplified. Every joint is cut on our CNC router or lathe, and every brass part is cut from sheet or pipe on our laser. The hidden steel takes the load. The brass is what you see and touch.

Steel inside, brass outsideThreads in brass wear quickly. Bolts and nuts are steel. Caps, plates, bushes and sabots are brass.
Never into end grainA thread in the end of a teak rail pulls out. We bolt across the grain into a cross-dowel or nut instead.
Always two locatorsOne dowel lets a rail twist. Two dowels, or a tenon, hold it square.

Cross-dowel rail joint

The workhorse. A steel bolt goes through the leg into a barrel nut set across the rail. Two dowels stop the rail turning. A laser-cut brass cap covers the bolt head.

Leg / railCNC router: 10 mm bolt hole, 10 mm cross hole, dowel holes from one setup
Bolt, nutM8 × 90 zinc or stainless, barrel nut Ø10 × 20 (bought in)
BrassØ24 cap, 2 mm sheet, laser cut; press fit into Ø24 counterbore

Used in: Jaisalmer trestle dining table, Gir console table, Udaipur canvas armchair, Pali bar stool

Bed bolt

The traditional way to join a bed. A long bolt pulls the rail onto the post. The nut sits in a pocket on the inside face, hidden by the mattress.

Post / railCNC router: through hole, nut pocket 26 × 48, dowel holes
Bolt, nutM10 × 150 bed bolt + square nut (bought in)
BrassØ45 rosette, 2 mm sheet, held by two brass screws

Used in: Shivalik safari four-poster, Chittorgarh block-print four-poster, Zanskar tent wardrobe

Corner plate + hanger bolt

Legs come off a table in seconds. A straight brass plate sits in two angled saw cuts. A hanger bolt from the leg pulls the leg into the corner.

RailsCNC router: 45° kerf 5 mm wide, 12 deep
LegInner corner chamfered; M8 hanger bolt screwed into long grain
Brass5 mm plate, laser cut flat. No bending. Wing nut + washer

Used in: Bharatpur round dining table, Corbett card table, Keoladeo round coffee table, Konkan writing desk

Tusk tenon + wedge

No metal at all. The stretcher passes through the leg and a tapered teak wedge locks it. Knock the wedge out and the table comes apart.

Folding pivot

Every folding chair and camp table turns on this. The brass tube stops the bolt wearing the teak. The PTFE washer keeps the fold smooth for years.

06

Hook-plate bed rail

No tools. The rail hooks into slots in the post and drops down. The weight of the bed holds it tight. Both plates are cut flat on the laser.

PostPlate let in flush 5 mm; slot pockets behind
Rail6 mm kerf in rail end; plate epoxied + 2 cross pins

Stacking chest pins

Campaign chests travel as separate cases. Brass pins on the lower case drop into brass cups under the upper case, so the stack sits true and cannot slide.

CasesØ8 and Ø14 holes on CNC
BrassPins from Ø8 rod, cups from Ø14 × 2 pipe, epoxied

Brass sabot

The brass shoe on a leg protects the end grain from wet floors and decks. We make it from pipe and a laser-cut disc, never a casting.

LegLathe: spigot turned to 37 for a Ø40 × 1.5 pipe
